Transporting goods into and out of cities is going to pose a major challenge in the years to come. While the rapid growth in online sales means that more and more parcels need to be delivered to addresses in the city, municipal authority regulations regarding vehicle access to the city centre are also on the rise. With the idea of smart logistics by bike for the city of Basel, we want to ensure that environmentally friendly and efficient deliveries can be made to the city centre in future.

The smart logistics by bike concept devised by KurierZentrale is intended to encourage parcel service providers and other suppliers to stop using their own vehicles to cover the last mile. The consignments are unloaded in the city hub and KurierZentrale undertakes the last-mile delivery by cargo bike. This can be accomplished efficiently and affordably thank to smart route planning software. The city hub also serves as a storage space for companies whose products are available close to the city and who want to provide their customers in the city centre with flexible and fast deliveries by cycle courier.
