Urban gardening

The need for green spaces for climate-adapted urban development has long been recognized, the longing for near-natural places of retreat and recreation in the urban environment is increasing, and community and family gardens are currently experiencing a veritable renaissance. At the same time, space in the urban context is notoriously scarce. For the extended greening of urban space, therefore, in addition to specialist knowledge, planting concepts that can be implemented spontaneously are required.

This is exactly what Hochbeet Basel is testing in the Smart City Lab Basel: In workshops, they familiarize participants with the peculiarities of urban nature and enable them to creatively green urban areas.

In the sense of upcycling, pallets and collars are given a second life as raised beds that allow spontaneous and cost-effective greening in confined spaces. In the sense of a bottom-up strategy, Hochbeet Basel makes a contribution to climate-adapted urban development with this combination of awareness-raising work and product distribution.
